DoubleBump ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Data We Collect
Account & Profile
Name and email address — provided by Apple or Google at sign-in
Nickname — chosen by you during setup
Profile photo — optionally uploaded by you
Social media handles — optionally added by you (Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Discord, GitHub, Spotify, Pinterest, Reddit, YouTube, Email)
Device & Technical
Device UUID — generated locally and stored in the device Keychain; used to support bump matching and device integrity
APNs push token — to deliver bump notifications
App version, OS version — for debugging and crash reporting
Motion Data (during bump only)
Accelerometer and gyroscope readings — captured for approximately 150ms during a double-bump gesture; used only to match your bump with a nearby device
Motion data is temporarily stored for bump matching and automatically deleted shortly after processing; it is never used for profiling or sold to third parties
Location (optional)
Location information associated with bump events — only when you grant permission and only after a successful bump
Location is used to display your social map; it is never used for real-time tracking
You can disable location recording at any time in Settings
Radar (optional)
Approximate real-time location — only while you turn Radar on and the App is in the foreground; used to show you that other DoubleBump users are nearby
Your location is offset by roughly 60–140 meters before it is shown to anyone — your exact coordinates are never revealed to other users, and Radar never runs in the background
When Radar detects a nearby user who is out of Bluetooth range, your nickname and profile photo may be shown to that user (and theirs to you), even if you have never bumped, matched, or connected with them
Radar is off by default. You can turn it on or off at any time in Settings → Radar
Bump Memories (optional)
Text comments up to 100 characters — written by you about a specific bump
Photos — one photo per person per bump, compressed and uploaded by you; visible only to the other person involved, users you're connected with, or users who have temporarily unlocked profiles via a rewarded ad
Chat Messages
Text messages you send and receive — DoubleBump lets you message any user who hasn't blocked you, not only people you've bumped
Search terms you enter to find other users by nickname, to start a conversation
Block and report actions — if you report another user, the reason you select and any details you add are shared with us for review
Usage Data
Bump events, relationship levels, and feed activity — stored to operate your social graph
Chat and Radar activity (e.g., messages sent, Radar enabled/disabled) — stored to operate messaging and nearby-discovery features
Ad interaction events — collected by Google AdMob when you view a rewarded ad
2. How We Use Your Data
To operate the bump matching and social graph features
To display your profile and social links to users you have bumped
To let you discover nearby DoubleBump users through Radar
To enable 1:1 messaging between users, including people you haven't bumped
To review reports and enforce blocks between users
To send push notifications about new bumps, messages, and level-ups
To show your bump map and bump memory history
To serve voluntary rewarded video ads that unlock profile features
To improve app performance and fix bugs
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data.
Visible to Other Users
Some data is shared directly with other DoubleBump users as part of how the App works — not with an outside company:
Your nickname, profile photo, and social links — shown to users you've bumped
Your approximate (offset) location and identity — shown to nearby users if you turn on Radar, even before you've bumped
Chat messages you send — visible to the recipient
Beyond that, we share data only with the following service providers:
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, and file storage (servers in the US/EU) supabase.com/privacy
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of users.
4. Data Retention
Account and profile data — retained until you delete your account
Bump event records — temporarily retained for matching, then deleted or marked as expired
Relationship and feed data — retained until you delete your account
Location data — retained until you delete your account or disable location sharing
Bump memory photos and comments — retained until you or your account is deleted
Chat messages — retained until you delete your account
Radar location — retained only while Radar is on; a stale presence is dimmed after 10 minutes and fully deleted within 24 hours of your last update, or immediately when you turn Radar off
Reports — reports you have filed are deleted when you delete your account; reports filed against you are retained for safety and moderation purposes even after account deletion
5. Your Rights & Choices
Access & Correction: View and edit your profile, nickname, social links, and memories in the App at any time
Location: Disable in Settings → Share my location, or revoke permission in iOS Settings → DoubleBump
Radar: Off by default — turn it on or off anytime in Settings → Radar
Chat: Block or report another user from any conversation; a blocked user cannot message you and disappears from your Radar and nearby lists
Push Notifications: Disable in Settings → Push notifications, or in iOS Settings
Account Deletion: Go to Settings → Delete Account to permanently delete all your data. This action is irreversible.
6. Bluetooth
DoubleBump uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to detect nearby phones during a bump. BLE scanning is used only for proximity detection; we do not store Bluetooth identifiers or pair with other devices. BLE is not used when you are not actively bumping.
7. Children's Privacy
DoubleBump is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, contact us at [email protected].
8. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), Row-Level Security policies on our database, and access tokens with automatic rotation.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
